Don't Forget Audio Conferencing

Vertatique has previously reported on web conferencing as an energy saving, carbon reducing technology. Audio conferencing is older and often delivers less of a sense of "presence", but remains a valuable green technology. Lloyds and KPMG report their results . . .

The large UK bank Lloyds TSB reports that it increased use of audio conferencing in 2006 by 50% as part of its carbon-reduction efforts. Lloyds calculates that the almost 235,000 audio-conference meetings last year reduced car and rail travel by 20 million kilometers.

On the video conferencing front, KPMG estimates deploying that technology has saved 10 million miles of air and road travel while promoting "improved work-life balance."
