Nokia and Vodafone: Top ICT Companies in 2010 Global 100
"The Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World is an annual project initiated by Corporate Knights, the magazine for clean capitalism…with three strategic partners to identify…the global corporations which have been most proactive in managing environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues. Launched in 2005, the annual Global 100 is announced each year during the World Economic Forum in Davos." ICT companies do not populate the top of this list like they do some others.
ICT enterprises dominated Newsweek's Green Rankings 2009 of the US Fortune 500, but only two pure ICT companies placed well in the 2010 Global 100. Nokia (#5 - Finland) and its products score highly in a number of green rankings and Vodafone (#8 - UK) is one of our Greenest Telecoms.
Newsweek top performers HP(#1), Dell(#2), and IBM(#5) did not make the Global 100 list; Intel, #4 on Newsweek, was #39 here. This is yet another example of the challenges sorting through conflicting corporate ratings in the search for sustainable vendors and partners.
It should be noted that this list is culled from 3000 publicly-traded companies, so everyone of the 100 can be considered a top performer.
